Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
To establish a formally recognized centre, the following must be completed before a certificate will be issued by the SAUDI HEART ASSOCIATION indicating that your centre is affiliated to the SHA. The requirements are the following:
1. EQUIPMENT
- Training manikins for BLS and ACLS according to the status of the centre.
- Crash cart.
- Defibrillators.
- Audio-visual materials.
- Sterilization solution.
- Drugs. Premixed and ampoules.
- Consumables.
- Other accessories.
2. INSTRUCTORS (4 at least)
- BLS Courses (nurses, doctors, technicians, paramedics etc.).
- ACLS Courses (cardiologists, physicians, anaesthetists, Paramedic, etc.).
- PALS Courses (Paediatricians, Paediatric intensivist, Paediatric care nurses, etc.)
3. THE FACILITIES
- Lecture hall with adequate seating
- Four rooms for practice, demonstration and testing.
- Computers for secretarial work
- Secretary, clerk, and labour
- Storage facility
- Lounge
- Prayer facilities
- Office for the in charge of the programme
- Computer lab equipped with 24 computers for 24 candidates.
4. MATERIALS & HANDOUTS
Materials and hand-outs can be purchased from the Saudi Heart Association (SHA).
The association has the facilities for English and Arabic versions. You can contact
the CPR Secretary.
5. THE WORKING PERSONELL: TITLE AND CRITERIA;:
PROGRAMME DIRECTOR
physician or an anaesthetist has to be assigned by the Chief of staff to be responsible for the CPR Centre in your hospital.

Job description:
- He/she must have three-five years experience as a consultant.
- The assigned programme director has to attend and complete the Basic and Advanced
Cardiac Life Support Instructor's Course.
- The programme director (chairman of the CPR Committee of that establishment) will
be responsible for full control of the activities of the centre regarding organization,
conduction and supervision of all CPR training programmes.
- He/she can participate as instructor in order to keep the validity of his/her certificate.
- In hospitals he/she responsible for the content of the crash carts, distribution,stocking
and testing.
- He/she can assign instructor for each course.
- He/she must sign the small certificate.
- He/she must submit the annual report.
- He/she should be able to utilize the statistics in research and conferences.
- He/she can submit regular reports to the chairman of the CPR committee requesting
recertification of instructors who complete the required 8 courses during the validity
of the certificate.
- He/she can submit a recommendation letter to the chairman of the national CPR committee
requesting an upgrade of certain instructors who complete the requirement of participating
in 30 or more courses for instructor training and fulfil the criteria of SHA.
CPR COORDINATOR
A physician, nurse or a technician may be assigned as CPR coordinator by the programme director (CPR chairman).
Job description:
- The assigned CPR coordinator has to attend and complete the Basic and Advanced Cardiac
Life Support Instructor's Course.
- He/she is assigned by the CPR programme director.
- He/she is responsible for running the activities of the CPR centre.
- He/she is responsible to submit monthly report on the CPR courses conducted in the
centre to the chairman of the programme director.
- He/she is responsible to see that the assigned course supervisor is preparing all
necessary educational materials for the course.
- He/she is responsible to communicate with the CPR office for any inquiries, advice,requesting
the necessary educational materials and purchasing books.
Identification of Instructor potential (IP)for SHA CPR Courses
- The instructor can be a medical doctor, nurse, technician or paramedic.
- Demonstrated good competence in the subject at a provider course.
- Score more than 90 % in the written and skill performance at provider course
from the first attempt.
- Speak both languages (Arabic/English) good and fluently.
- Shown leadership personality.
- Shown clinical credibility and skills, then involve being articulated, supportive
and motivated.
- Recommended by two (2) senior instructors at the provider course.
Identification of Instructor Candidates (IC)
- Successfully complete the instructor course at any recognized CPR training center
by SHA.
- Teach on courses under the supervision of senior instructor for the first 90 days
after the date of the instructor course.
- The number of under supervision courses is decided with the final result of the
instructor course.
- After he/she finish the assigned supervision course, the IC normally progress to
full instructor status, but occasionally the senior instructor and/or faculty decides
that a further course is required, or rarely that the candidates is not suitable
to progress to be an instructor.
- An appeal can be logged with the national CPR committee which makes the final decision.
Full Instructor status
- FULLY conduct any assignment during the course independently.
- He/she can be responsible or assigned to organize and conduct a specific CPR course
by the coordinator and approved by the CPR program director.
- Shown Flexibility, modest personality during teaching and training.
- Should consult senior instructor in case of inefficient knowledge, or skill performance
to himself.
- He/she is responsible to maintain and keep the center and all equipment in a good
working order.
- He/she may be assigned by senior for any task within the center activities.
- Attached to his certifying center for renewal of instructor certificate.
Senior Instructor (SI)
- Full instructor conducting more than twenty (20) provider courses.
- Participate in more than 10 under supervision for (IC).
- Have excellent feed back about his performance during the course by candidates,
coordinator/director.
- Can participate in training of trainer (TOT) courses under supervision of faculty.
- Letter of recommendations by coordinator /director of the center to upgrade to senior
instructor, forwarded to national CPR Committee
- Recommend by two (2) faculty members as a full TOT instructor.
Faculty Member
- Senior instructor (for both BLS and ACLS) participates fully and independently in
more than ten (10) TOT courses.
- Have considerable clinical credibility, good judgment and impeccable powers of assessment
and fairness.
- Recommended by Director of CPR Training Centers and course Director of TOT courses.
- Approval should come from National CPR Committee at SHA.
Course Director Status
- Full instructor can progress to the status of course director.
- Should participate in more than Ten (10) courses as full instructor, and least four
(4) courses have been appointed as course co-director.
- Have considerable clinical credibility, good judgment and impeccable powers of assessment
and fairness.
- Recommended by coordinator/director of training center.
6. AFFILIATION FEES (Please see the Rules & Regulations)
CERTIFICATION OF RECOGNITION WILL BE ISSUED BY THE SAUDI HEART ASSOCIATION UPON
THE COMPLETION OF THE ABOVE.
7. SUPPORTING FACILITIES:
Secretary, computer, receptionist, male and female lounges, prayer area, etc. The policy of the Saudi Heart Association, which is not much different from the other Heart Associations, is that you must be an instructor in Basic or Advanced Cardiac Life Support by attending one of the SHA's Instructor courses. If you hold a valid certificate from abroad issued by other associations, and these association have a valid memorandum of understanding(a sort of contract/deal) with Saudi heart association, then a Copy of the certificate from abroad issued by these association should be forwarded to the Saudi Heart Association to be replaced by the SHA certificate.
8. CERTIFICATION:
The center will be visited for inspection by one of the faculty of the Saudi Heart Association for final Approval.
The Saudi Heart Association is the sole body responsible for the CPR activities in the kingdom is affiliated with international liaison committee on resuscitation (ILCOR).
- The Saudi Heart Association will issue a certificate of accreditation annually upon
the payment of the fees indicating the period of its validity and specifying the
facilities of the centre.
- The SHA will provide all needed materials to organize and conduct courses and small
certificates (with serial number) free of charge, together with a reasonable quantity
of posters or other training aids.
- The Saudi Heart Association will immediately notify all accredited centres of any
changes in the standards and performance guidelines which are notified to the association.
- The first and second courses run by any centre will be supervised by a member of
the faculty of the Saudi Heart Association.
- The Saudi Heart Association shall form an oversight group of faculty members who
will be responsible for monitoring and/or reviewing training Centres performance
and compliance with SHA program guidelines and curriculum on an annual basis through
a review of sites, course audits and monitoring of instructors.
- Validity of the CPR certificates is two years.
- The SHA will notify the SCFHS with all centres accredited regularly.
- The Saudi Heart Association has the right to withdraw or cancel the certificate
of accreditation in the case of violating the following points :
- Providing courses away from their approved centers.
- Courses not compliant to approved contents.
- Courses not compliant to approved course duration.
- Providing courses at reduced rates.
- The center should maintain the ratio of (one instructor: 5-6 candidates) and never use one instructor only for classes with a bigger numbers(i.e > 6 candidates).
- Using copies of educational material.
- Forgery of signatures, falsification of examination results & other documents.
- Improper use of materials provided by the Association.
It is hoped that all centres/affiliates will adhere to these requirements and recommendations
to achieve our goal in maintaining the standards and guidelines of CPR issued and
available on the website of the CPR committee (www.cprksa.com). Approved by, the
Board of Directors of the Saudi Heart Association.
OBLIGATIONS OF ACCREDITED CENTERS
The following criteria must be met before the Saudi Heart Association (SHA) will
consider request from any Institution for recognition and accreditation:
- 1. Follow the standards and guidelines of the Saudi Heart Association for establishing Training Center: Adequate numbers of certified Instructors in BLS and/or ACLS. Availability of equipment required for Basic and/or Advanced Cardiac Life Support training programs. A well equipped center with a lecture room & performance stations nearby, offices, secretarial facilities, storage room, etc. Ample supply of textbooks and hand outs required for a specific course.
- 2. The centre (hospital) will pay an annual registration fee, which will be dependent
on the type of courses that they offer.

Private centers will pay the stipulated fees allocated for the centre / year (please read carefully item no. 3 category of centers next page).

3. the following are the categories of accredited private CPR centres:
- Small Centers; Certify up to 300 candidates/year, Pay double the normal fees (Total
4000.00 SAR)
- Intermediate Centre; Certify over 300-800 candidates/year, Pay 1 &1/2 in addition
to the normal fees (Total 5000.00 SAR)
- Major center; Certify over 800 candidates/year, Pay twice the normal fees (Total
6000.00 SAR)
- Each center must specify its category during the application for accreditation or reaccreditations, so the center will have automatic counter on the website for the no. of issued bar coded certificates
- The big certificates will be issued through the web site, but candidates can claim them from the training center. The training center can issue their certificate with both Saudi heart logo and their logo provided that they upload their logo through their profile in the website.
- The new small serial certificate is under preparation and will be sent soon & to
be used officially by all centers.
4. The new small bar coded certificates will be issued automatically through the website after approval from Saudi heart program head/facilitator, and can be printed by the candidates once they fill the feedback of the course. In case of loosing the certificate the candidates can claim a copy of it through the training center.
5. Once the training centers are registered in the website, and manage their courses through it, the statistic of each center will be sent automatically to the Saudi heart, and no need to forwarded to SHA Monthly or bimonthly.
6. Re certification of each center will only be granted provided the file record of the center is kept up to date. The following should be in the file of each center at SHA office regularly: CPR Statistics, Instructor's names & courses taught, Name of the CPR chairman (If changed)for authentication and Other relevant matters.
7. The SHA shall have an access to all center facilities through the website in order to conduct and annual review to all centers.
8. Application form must be completed with the agreement form during the application for accreditation or reaccreditation of centers..

The American Heart Association Instructor Manuals will continue to be used for BCLS and ACLS INSTRUCTOR Courses.
Recommendation Letter Format
In order to register for Instructor course or to apply for Senior Instructor /Faculty
Member/Inspector, the candidate needs to upload two recommendation letters.

STEPS TO REGISTER TO THE COURSES THROUGH THE PORTAL
- To apply to any course, login to the CPR Portal with your login credentials and
navigate to the Course Catalog menu in the portal where you can find all
the available courses
- You can view the Published training programs for each course respectively
- Register to the course by simply clicking on the Register Link, you will
be redirected to the My Courses Page under the My Activities menu
and the registered course would be added to your active courses list
- Once your registration is approved by the training center, you can make the payment
of the respective course and access the course content online
- For Registration to an instructor course, the candidate needs to submit two recommendation
letters which will be approved or rejected by the SHA panel.
- After the completion of the course, you need to take an online exam. There is also
a facility to take a pre exam (mock test) before attempting the final exam and the
result of the pre exam will not be taken into account. The candidate also has an
option to view the previous exam results in the portal.
- The candidate will be issued certificate for the course only when he clears the
Final Course end exam which would be conducted online.
- After successful completion of the End exam, candidate can access the E-Certificate
online by logging into the portal in the My Activities -> My courses ->My Completed
courses by clicking on the E Certificate column and can print his/her E-Certificate
from anywhere.
- At any time, the candidate can login to the portal navigate to the My Activities
-> My courses and can get the history of all the active and completed courses
STEPS TO APPLY TO SENIOR INSTRUCTOR/FACULTY MEMBER/INSPECTOR PROCESS THROUGH THE
PORTAL
- To apply to Senior Instructor /Faculty Member/Inspector registrations, login to
the portal with your credentials.
- Navigate to My Activities-> Senior Instructor /Faculty Member/Inspector registration
form
- Fill in the registration form (Recommendation Letter format can be found in the
FAQ’s menu under the Recommendation letter format)
- Once the registration is approved, the committee would review the application and
if candidate satisfies the Eligibility criteria he/she would be informed with the
further proceedings via email or telephone
- The candidate can always check the status of the application by navigating to My
Activies-> Senior Instructor /Faculty Member/Inspector registration form and checking
the status of the application at the top right in the Application Status
field
- At any time, the candidate can view his Senior Instructor /Faculty Member/Inspector
registrations and validity dates in the My Courses page in the Senior Instructor
/Faculty Member/Inspector registrations
